RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Nearly two dozen new Richmond police officers are now on the streets protecting the city.

Twenty-three men and women graduated from the academy and were sworn in as new members of the Richmond Police Department Thursday morning.

Richmond Police Chief Ray Tarasovic said the recruits are among the best and most diverse the department has ever seen.

The new officers will begin patrolling the streets immediately.
