RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The Richmond Department of Public Utilities reported a water main break along 7th Street between Main and Cary Streets. CBS 6 viewers who work in the area have reported some buildings in that area are now without water.
"We are going to run bypass water lines for office buildings along E Main from 5th to 7th so they will have water while we repair break," the Public Utilities department tweeted.
There was also a water main break along Main Street near 26th Street.
"En route to 26th and E Main for another water main break. Police have street blocked off," DPU tweeted. "Do not know cause of water main breaks yet, 26th are very old pipes, 5th and 7th could be shifting ground, underground streams pressure."
Turns out, the water main break here is far worse than two others reported Wednesday morning.
Work crews closed Main Street between 25th & 26th Streets because of the break and damage to asphalt.
Angela Fountain, with Public Utilities says crews will work thru the night to try and make the repairs.
Fountain adds, historic cobblestones underneath the asphalt makes repairs difficult.
One business, a small engine repair shop, closed its doors because of the road closure and no water.
Millie's Diner, a iconic restaurant on Main Street, taped a note to their front door and advised customers no tap water would be served as a precaution.
This is a developing story.
