ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (WTVR) – A car with a woman inside fell about 40 feet from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland on Friday night after being hit by a tractor-trailer.
The 22-year-old woman had been traveling on the bridge for about a quarter of a mile when she was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer and another vehicle.
Once in the water, she was able to get out of her car and climb to a piling of stones surrounding one of the bridge supports.
A boater saw the accident happen and waited with the woman until emergency crews arrived.
Rescue officials said the victim was conscious and able to answer their questions as she was airlifted to a hospital. The woman was in critical condition, but authorities said her injuries were non-life threatening.
The car was fished out of Chesapeake Bay on Saturday.
