SUFFOLK, Va. (WTVR) – A Virginia mother will serve a month in jail for not taking her son to school.
Stacey Warmack's 12-year-old son missed 62 days of school at a Suffolk elementary school last year. However, she said the excessive absences were “blown real out of proportion.”
“Obviously him missing them days didn`t come to a point where he didn`t learn cause he passed,” Warmack said.
The mother argued that the school bus did not come to her house and that she ran into trouble taking him to school because she had back surgery. She also said the boy wanted to be with his mother.
“He would not leave this house for nothing in the world,” Warmack said. “He wanted to be up on his mom, being with me and everything and that’s just how my son is. He’s a Mothers boy.”
Warmack was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor on Thursday.
