GROVELAND, Calif. (CNN) – A camp counselor was killed when a tree fell at a California summer camp this week. Four other adult staff members at Camp Tawonga were hurt. The mother of 21-year-old victim Annais Rittenberg said her daughter had an earlier near death experience.
“This child was in a car accident and nearly two years ago she was hit on the campus in the crosswalk at Santa Cruz, 40 miles-an-hour in here and she flipped through the — here, she survives that and she’s fell by a tree,” Penelope Rittenberg said.
The tree fell outside a dining hall as campers were inside eating breakfast. No campers were hurt.
There is an investigation underway to determine what caused the tree to fall.
