RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia Congressman Scott Rigell (R - 2nd District) told the Virginian Pilot he would vote for, but not endorse, Republican Lt. Governor Candidate E.W. Jackson. Rigell said Jackson's comments about gay people have caused him concern.
"His views with respect to the gay and lesbian community and homosexuality in general are not my own. I'm going to leave it at that," Rigell said. "What he said and, indeed, how he said it. All of it."
Rigell said he does oppose gay marriage, but supports civil unions for same sex couples.
"I consider Scott Rigell a friend and a brother in Christ and will welcome his support once he learns the truth about those statements and the context in which they were said in my role as a minister," Jackson said in a statement to CBS 6.
