John Tyler Community College postpones graduation ceremony

CHESTER, Va. (WTVR) - Imagine inviting your family and friends to your college graduation, only to find out by email that graduation was postponed due to the potential of bad weather.

That was the reality for students at John Tyler Community College in both Chester and Midlothian.

The ceremony was set to be outside at the main campus off Route 10.  However, late Friday night, campus officials alerted students that the threat of severe weather would push Saturday's graduation ceremony to Monday afternoon.

One student expressed her thoughts on the situation.

"It's very disappointing because it's been a struggle for me, all off and on.  Life happens," student Melissa McQuinn said.  "I'm finally making it and a lot of my friends and family won't be able to make it, so it's definitely a bummer."

Several students scheduled to graduate say they'd like for the ceremony to be moved indoors so something like this won't happen again in the future.

We reached out to John Tyler for a comment but have not heard back.
