Henrico schools again move forward with Dell laptop contract

Henrico County students and the school board voted unanimously tonight to move forward with a multi-million-dollar contract with Dell.

They'll receive almost 19,000 new laptops, which will cost about $4.5-million dollars per year, for four years.

Most speakers tonight questioned whether the contract was a wise use of money at a time when teachers are not getting raises and hours are being cut for part-time workers.

Teachers will get new laptops for school next year.

The contract deal was originally approved last week, but it was put on hold when the county manager scolded board members for not getting input from parents first.
