TUCSON, Az. (CNN) – "Dress like a lady, get treated like a lady" - that's the message a college student wants to get out, but his method is causing an uproar on the campus of the University of Arizona.
Dean Saxton thinks women should dress conservatively, so he began holding up a sign that says, “You deserve rape”.
Saxton says the sign is aimed at women who show more skin. Students and staff began fighting back with a demonstration of their own on Tuesday.
"I see him with a ridiculous sign. I'm being just as ridiculous to show him exactly what he is doing to push students to the brink," said Courtney Brock, a counter protester.
“I'm out here to proclaim God's law. The bible says that women should dress modestly and that there are punishments for the sexually immoral," said Saxton, defending his stance.
In a statement, the university called Saxton's method "vile and repugnant," but said the student is well within his right to free speech.
