AFGHANISTAN (WTVR) – A Virginia Beach man illegally held in Afghanistan over a contact dispute has been freed.
Three congressmen, including Rep. Scott Rigell, said David Gordon was arrested Wednesday without any charges and was then injured in a beating and not given medical care for 24 hours.
Officials said Gordon’s detention stemmed from a contract dispute. Afghan authorities were asking $2.4 million for his release.
As a result, officials sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry to ask him to intervene.
Tamerlane Global Services said Gordon is receiving medical attention and will be kept in a safe place until he can return to the U.S.
Tamerlane’s Ryan Kelly said diplomatic efforts by U.S. military advisors and the congressmen’s efforts were instrumental in his release.
