(WTVR) — Women wake up far more grumpier than their male counterparts, according to a newly published Duke University survey.
In fact, women need far more sleep than men and suffer more mentally and physically if forced to go without it, research suggests.
It appears lack of sleep can also put women at higher risk of heart disease, depression and psychological problems
In contrast, men’s health appears to be far less dependent on how well they sleep.
The study showed men with sleeping problems had no increased risk of the conditions that were affecting the women.
Lack of sleep seems to affect women more than men for a few reasons. One hypothesis states this may be because of the sexes differing hormonal levels. In turn, researchers think women may need more time asleep to regulate and keep their hormones in balance.
Doctors say lack of sleep can take a toll on a person’s health, which can put them at higher risk of heart disease and depression.
