(WTVR) - For a state that has always thrived on farmed goods, a decline in the number of farms in the area has some people worried.
The Virginia Department of Agriculture said there are about 46,000 farms in Virginia.
That's down by 200 farms since 2011.
The number of farms with less than $100,000 in agriculture sales has also decreased.
While this could have an impact on the price of food and goods in our area, a spokesperson with the Department of Agriculture said the impact will be minimal.
