(CBS) - CBS News learned investigators looking into the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting found 20-year-old gunman Adam Lanza was obsessed with another mass murder.

Investigators told CBS News that Lanza saw himself in direct competition with Anders Breivik. Breivik killed 77 people in July 2011 when he set off a bomb in Oslo and shot children at a teen camp on a nearby island. Sources told CBS News Lanza was obsessed with trying to top the Oslo shooter's body count.

Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance called the CBS News report inaccurate, but CBS stands by the story as reported.
