Women smuggling sperm out of prison

Posted

(WTVR) – Some wives of Palestinian prisoners have resorted to smuggling their husband’s sperm out of Israeli prisons, in order to start families, according to a report from CNN’s Sara Sidner.

"Why does the wife of a prisoner have to suffer and stay like this without children and a family?" Rimah Silawi asked. Silawi's husband is serving 27 life sentences for helping plan a deadly bombing in Jerusalem. "It is our right to meet our husbands and our right to have children," she added.

Israeli prison officials told CNN they doubt the womens' claims.

The Palestinian women would not tell CNN how they smuggled the semen.

There is a medical clinic in the West Bank that is performing the artificial inseminations. The head of the fertility center told CNN he cannot verify the sperm is from the prisoners.
