RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - A senate panel shot down a plan that would have made getting voluntary background checks for private gun sellers easier.
The legislation would have put someone who could do background checks at every gun show. Private gun sellers would have had the option of being able to conduct background checks on buyers at shows. Right now, private gun dealers do not have to conduct background checks on buyers at gun shows. Critics refer to that as the gun show loophole.
Under current law only licensed dealers are required to conduct background checks at gun shows.
