RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Strong winds from an approaching storm system snapped a pine tree in half, narrowly missing a nearby home Wednesday afternoon.
Officials said high winds could topple trees or power poles, causing significant power outages later tonight.
Dominion Virginia Power's Daisy Pridgen told CBS 6 News' Joe St. George that they are ready if and when the storm worsens.
"We do have our crews on standby. They're ready to go. Their trucks are fueled." Pridgen said. "We have materials and supplies on hand. And we have contractors and additional crews on standby should we need them."
If you have a power outage, call Dominion at 1-866-DOM-HELP. You can also visit their mobile website, M.Dom.com.
Officials said outages in the most populated areas will be restored first.
