Snow tips and problem spots in the commute

Posted

RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) - We're monitoring conditions on the roads as we get later in the day. Wintry weather caused deteriorating conditions overnight. However, as we get later in the morning and afternoon commute conditions will improve. There may possible be refreezing as temperatures drop later, so please keep that in mind.

Here are a few tips for travel today:

- Black ice is still an issue in the morning commute. Use extreme caution on bridges and overpasses.
- Slow down; the majority of crashes occur when people rush.
- Give braking room; at least 2 car lengths. It takes longer to stop in wet/icy conditions.
- Give snow plows space and don't pass them unless you absolutely have to.

Construction should be suspended through the day and into tomorrow while crews clean up. See you this afternoon at 5pm with your only live traffic reports in the evening commute.
