(WTVR) -Satellite TV provider Dish network kicked off a bidding war with Sprint over its broadband provider Clearwire.
Dish offered to purchase Clearwire for roughly $5 billion.
That's higher than Sprint's offer last month, but the cell phone company may still have the upper hand.
Sprint already owns 50% take in Clearwire, and they would have to save their stockholder rights in the Dish deal, which is unlikely.
Clearwire is popular because of the large infrastructure of airwaves that wireless signals travel through.
This deal would affect Sprint's ability to provide 4G service to some of its customers.
