Family: Woman’s boyfriend set her on fire after fight

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KPIX) -- Neighbors said they heard horrifying cries for help Sunday afternoon and then saw a woman set on fire desperately tearing at her clothing.

"We heard some screaming and we went outside and there was African young girl screaming," one woman, who did not want to be identified, said. "I guess she took off her shirt."

Another woman said the victim was running around trying to take off her sweater when a man came up, grabbed her purse and just walked away.

Twenty-five-year-old Starr LaMare's family said the mother of three was torched by her boyfriend after a fight.

"Her and her boyfriend got into an argument and ah she left the Laundromat and he had poured gasoline in a can and next thing I know my sister was on the ground burnt," said Precious Craig, the victim's sister.

Police said Lamare was taken to St. Francis Hospital's burn center where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Police have the suspect's name, but have not announced an arrest.

"He did that to my sister. She didn't deserve it," Craig said. "He should turn himself in, but she's going to make a full recovery… I know she's strong [and] she's been thru so much."
