RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -Young school children in Henrico wanted to give to the homeless for the holidays.

Fourth and 5th graders at Gayton Elementary in western Henrico spent part of their day Tuesday making cards and holiday gift bags for the Freedom House, the soup kitchen and community shelter that's been serving Richmond's homeless for 28 years.

The gift bags have some simple items for those in need.

Student's parents also donated money to help make the gifts happen.
