(WTVR) - Studies show that picking out presents may depend on what colors you see when you go into a store.

A study at Virginia Tech says that red stimulates and energizes our bodies, even our spending.  It doesn't matter if a red shirt are on display or if there are red walls in the store.

However, the opposite is true for people who shop in a store with blue on display.

Green is an optimistic color associated with luck or wealth.  The color has a more positive effect on creativity.

The study says it may explain the unusual gifts under the tree.  Professors at Virginia Tech say the trend also holds true for online shopping.
