RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--At Monday night's school board meeting, Richmond School board members decide to leave schools north of the James River open.
John B. Cary and Bellevue Elementary Schools were slated to close under the district's rezoning plans.
Despite recommendations by the rezoning committee to close many of the district's underutilized schools, board members told CBS 6 that they decided to veer away from the recommendations because many of the schools proposed to close were high-performing schools.
Monday night's board meeting was the last official meeting for seven of the nine board members.
The incoming school board will finalize the districts overall rezoning plans.
