Richmond, VA (WTVR) – The Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control stores cashed in on  Black Friday.

New numbers for the ABC show that liquor and wine sales were up 86% this Black Friday compared with the same day last year.

Carol Mawyer, with the ABC, said that last year, without even advertising it, the sales brought in $3.3 million in revenueMawyer said that was a $398,000 increase from sales in 2010.

Customer count was also up last year, with 5,500 more customers, and that was without any special promotions offered.

This year was the first year the state advertised deals on liquor on social networking sites, which drew complains from area bar and restaurant owners who are banned from doing the same thing.
