RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Governor Bob McDonnell wants tolls to help pay to fix Virginia’s roads, but now there is another option on the table.
State Senator John Watkins is proposing a 14-cent increase in Virginia’s gas tax, raising it to 31-cents a gallon. Watkins says the increase would eliminate the need for tolls.
In fact, Watkins says the gas tax hasn’t gone up in Virginia since 1986.
Senator Watkins says he’ll introduce the plan at the General Assembly session in January.
