and last updated

Nearly 20 million Americans suffer from depression. A new groundbreaking therapy may offer some a non-invasive option to treating this common mental health disorder, when other methods, such as psychotherapy or medications, have not been helpful.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the neural pathways of the brain associated with emotion. This noninvasive outpatient procedure doesn’t require anesthesia, surgery or electrode implantation and has minimal side effects.

Discover how VCU Medical Center psychiatrists are using this innovative technology to help those struggling with depression.
