Cleveland ‘upper cut’ bus driver fired after viral video

Posted

CLEVELAND (WJW) - According to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, Artis Hughes has been terminated from his operator position Tuesday.

Hughes is the driver seen in a viral video delivering a strong uppercut in September to an unruly passenger during a dispute over paying her fare.

Video shot from a different angle appears to show the woman, Shi’dea Lane, 25, assaulting him first. She is charged with disorderly conduct.

Hughes claims that his actions were in self-defense. According to the RTA, the evidence does not support that claim.
