CHICAGO (CNN) – President Obama is spending Election Day in his hometown of Chicago. He made a surprise visit to one of his campaign field offices.
There he thanked workers for their support. And he even helped man the phones.
One voter he called did not realize it was the president on the line.
"Hi. Is this Hattie? Hi, this is Barack Obama. How are you? I'm doing, you know... I don't think she knows it's me," the president said. "My name was Barack Obama, you know the president? Yeah..how are you? Can I just say you were really polite to me when you didn't know who I was, which is, that is so nice."
The president is also talking with the media today. He did a series of radio interviews early Tuesday. He's expected to play his traditional Election Day basketball game later Tuesday.
He's scheduled to spend election night at his campaign headquarters at McCormick Place.
