Hurricane Sandy wreaks havoc in Coney Island

Posted

CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. (WTVR) – People usually go to have fun, relax on the beach, and play games on the boardwalk.  That was not the case today.  Hurricane Sandy destroyed Coney Island, leaving their residents without food, electricity and shelter.

Lina Katz, a Coney Island store owner, stocked up piles of food in the hallway, refrigerator, and freezer.  Now she says everything is garbage.

Grocery stores in the area are running out of food and supplies.  Some residents say that some people are taking other people’s food.  “It’s dangerous out here at night,” one woman says.

Residents of Coney Island are trying to rebuild and get back to normal.
