RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)—Two hand grenades popped up on the X-ray screen Wednesday, at Richmond International Airport, likely giving the TSA officer a heart palpitation.
Fortunately they were children’s toys.
Police responded and confiscated the toy grenades, which belonged to a woman flying to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Homeland Security announced the situation and reminded the public that realistic replica weapons are not permitted on board in carry-on luggage.
“Although these are just toys, they are realistic enough that if the passenger had pulled one of these out while the plane was in flight, it would have caused a great deal of concern from passengers and the flight crew,” Lisette Garcia wrote in an email.
The passenger was delayed in the hoopla and missed her flight, but was re-ticketed after all was resolved.
