CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - A Chesterfield man's act of kindness got a little out of hand Wednesday morning.
Morris Crawford came upon a tree blocking lanes of Elkhart Road around 1 a.m. rather than drive around the debris Crawford stopped and warned another approaching motorist of the danger.
The two men setup a small roadblock to warn other drivers of the tree, even taking a small ax to the fallen branches in order to clear the roads.
By the time Chesterfield police arrived the road had been cleared. Crawford and the other man got the OK to leave.
That's when the trouble started for Crawford.
"As I try to back up, we end up getting stuck. So now we're sitting here with a tow truck having to pay for a tow truck out of our own pockets because we we're stopping trying to keep other people from getting hurt," Crawford said.
Crawford says his experience in the military and as a firefighter prompted him to take action. There were no reported injuries.
