It’s a topic that has been debated a lot in recent months, especially after New York City banned super-sized soft drinks.

Can soda make you fat? Turns out, it may depend on your genes.

A new study by the Harvard School of Health looked at people who drank similar amounts of soda and other sugary sweetened beverages and found those who had more than one particular type of genetic marker were more likely to be obese.

Researchers say the study suggests that genetic and environmental factors, like what you eat or drink, may work together in determining how likely you are to be overweight.
