MCINTYRE, Ga. (WTVR) – Six-year-old Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson and her mom June Shannon star in TLC’s hottest reality show, ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.’

“We really don’t consider ourselves like redneck,” said Shannon. “We don’t even put ourselves in a class — we’re just your everyday normal people.”

Shannon went on to say that for her family, life is all about experiences and their life journey. She said, regardless of the show’s success, they will be the same folks they were before the TV cameras arrived.

“Granted, we have haters, who doesn’t?” asked Shannon. “Anybody famous or nonfamous, you can’t make everybody happy all the time… I’m not saying I’m the perfect parent in any way, but nobody’s a perfect parent. Kids don’t come with instruction book period.”

The Associated Press also stopped by the family’s hometown, McIntyre, Ga., and talked to area residents about the show.

Carolyn Sneads, a resident, told the Associated Press that some of the things the family does are not representative of the county, but that she loves Honey Boo Boo and finds the show comical.

“They don’t put on. That’s everything they do every day,” said Tommy Floyd, who used to be a neighbor before the family located to McIntyre. “It just ain’t to put on for the show. That’s the way they act every day.”
