RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Early Tuesday morning, the system we’ve been closely monitoring as it moved westward through the open Atlantic Ocean since last week strengthened to Tropical Depression Nine. Within the next two days, it will likely strengthen further to become Tropical Storm Isaac. By this weekend, it may be a hurricane as it moves through the Caribbean very close to Puerto Rico, the island of Hispaniola, and Cuba. Beyond the seven-day forecast, there is decent agreement among the tropical forecast models that Isaac will move toward south Florida early next week. After that, it’s still too early to say where it will travel, but it bears watching. Maybe we’ve just become superstitious in Virginia with “I” storms, but I know we’ll be closely monitoring Tropical Depression Nine’s progress through this weekend as its track beyond Cuba becomes clear.
Stay with CBS 6, we’ll keep you ahead of the storm.
