Mural in Virginia Beach for Gabby Douglas

VIRGINIA BEACH (WTVR) – Gold medal gymnast and Virginia Beach native Gabby Douglas said she’s planning a trip home sometime soon, before heading off to her second home in Iowa.

When she arrives, she will be greeted with this new mural.

The artists, brothers Todd and Eric Lindbergh, of T.A.L.ENT Murals, completed the project in four days. The brothers, who live in town, said that they’re proud of Douglas and wanted to showcase their pride.

The brothers told news station WAVY that the original plan was to paint the words ‘Go Gabby’ somewhere in the city, but the Lindberghs couldn’t find any takers, well, not until Gabby won two gold medals. That’s when they approached A.J. Gators.

“When you paint something and see people like it, it’s the best feeling in the world,” said Todd Lindbergh. “It’s like winning a gold medal.”

And Gabby certainly gushed about it in a tweet response to a Virginia Beach local:
