While not as hot as the triple digits we saw earlier in the month, the overall pattern will keep things pretty hot and humid for the coming week. Highs will range from the lower to the upper 90s through Saturday, allowing our count of 90° days will grow rapidly.
We are roughly one-third of the way through the summer so far, with plenty of hot weather to go. So far this year, we have achieved a 100° day four times. This is a bit above normal, but nowhere near the number we had in 2010.
As with previous hot periods this year, thunderstorm clusters will ride along the edge of the strong heat. A few of them may work their way into our area this week. The first batch on Monday should target far western Virginia, but we could see some storms on Tuesday.
