VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTKR) – Virginia Beach police say they have found the body of a 10-year-old Chesapeake boy who disappeared while swimming at the Oceanfront Sunday afternoon.
Police said an officer on patrol along the shoreline found 10-year-old Lakee Copeland’s body in the surf in the 7000 block of the Oceanfront just after midnight.
The boy’s body was taken to a local hospital, where he was positively identified as the child that had disappeared in the water earlier on Sunday evening.
According to police, around 3 p.m. Sunday an adult and four children were on a sandbar at 61st Street.
Citizens reported hearing them yelling for help.
The other citizens were able to help the adult and three of the children, but could not find the fourth, Lakee Copeland.
