RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) – This Friday June 29th at 10 p.m. VDOT will close the existing Huguenot Bridge to traffic while crews move barriers into position and install pavement markings at the approaches to the new bridge.

VDOT expects work to be done by 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, weather permitting.
During the overnight closure, drivers are encouraged to use the following alternate routes:

• Northbound Huguenot Road – Chippenham Parkway (Route 150) north over the
Willey Bridge to River Road east to Huguenot Road or use Powhite Parkway (toll)
east into Richmond
• Southbound Huguenot Road – River Road west to Chippenham Parkway (Route 150)
south to Huguenot Road

The existing traffic pattern of one travel lane in each direction with no shoulders will remain
in place until the second half of the new bridge is ready to receive traffic next summer. In
addition, the sidewalk on the new bridge will be closed until approach work on the north end is completed in spring 2013.

In the city of Richmond, Riverside Drive under the bridge and the ramps at Huguenot Road
will close after traffic is shifted to the new bridge. Improvements will be made to Riverside
Drive and ramps through spring 2013. Drivers are encouraged to use the posted detour route. For more info and to check out the Huguenot Bridge live camera click here.

**Through June 30, 2012 - Southbound traffic will remain in one lane from Three Chopt Road to just south of the Huguenot Bridge; where Huguenot Road widens to two lanes. In addition, Huguenot Road northbound traffic will remain in one lane from just north of the Huguenot Bridge until Huguenot Road widens for the left turn lanes at River Road.
