HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - For most students, surprises in school are usually pop quizzes. But a Henrico student received much different surprise at school, one he'll never forget.
Demitra Pittman surprised her 3rd grade son Micah at Donahoe Elementary School on Thursday. Pittman is in the U.S. Navy and has been at sea for the last eight months, serving in places like Jordan and Japan. Pittman, who is an intelligence officer in the Navy, hadn't seen her son since October.
"This would be my fourth deployment. The other ones I did he was really young. So this one coming back to him, being able to see his reaction and him recognizing me right away is very special to me," says Pittman.
Micah Pittman said he was truly surprised to see his mom. He did not know she was coming. He says he looks forward to spending time at the mall and going out to eat with his mom.
Demitra Pittman had been deployed since June. But she was able to see her son for a few days back in October.
