DEEP GAP, NC (WTVR) - Funeral services are planned Monday night for a girl killed by a falling tombstone.
Four-year-old Peyton Townsend was playing with a group of children outside their church Friday night. The backyard of Mt. Paran Church doubles as a small cemetery. The pastor said the kids were just burning off energy before the start of Vacation Bible School.
The pastor said Peyton was standing on a tombstone when a massive cross fell on top of her. The pastor estimated the cross weighed more than 1,200 pounds. It has since been removed.
