Memorial service honors fallen firefighters

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - On Saturday afternoon, an annual memorial service honoring Virginia's fallen firefighters was held at the Richmond International Raceway Complex.

The event also honors those who have given their lives protecting Virginia's residents.

According to the Virginia Department of Fire Programs press release, the six fallen firefighters that were honored at this year's event were:

  • Firefighter David Palmer of Roanoke Fire-EMS
  • Lieutenant William Brady of Norfolk Fire-Rescue
  • Battalion Chief Bobbie Slayton of Roanoke Fire-EMS
  • Captain James Blanchard of James City County Fire Department
  • Firefighter Jeffery Cocke of Altavista Fire Department
  • Firefighter Horace Pendergrass of Fairfax County Fire & Rescue
