VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTVR) – Many folks across Central Virginia may be headed to the Outer Banks, the Chesapeake Bay or Virginia Beach this weekend.

If you have ever made the trek south, you know traffic can be a nightmare, especially on a holiday weekend.

That is why VDOT has unveiled some new signs designed to help you reach the beach more efficiently.

The signs display real-time traffic times so you can now how much longer it will take to get to the beach. (This is likely very important if you have small children, or are not sure if you will be able to make it to the hotel in time.)

But do the signs along the interstate actually work? Well, our sister station,WTKR NewsChannel 3, decided to put them to the test.

Watch the above video to find out the results.
