Judge: Facebook “likes” aren’t protected under First Amendment

(WTVR) – A federal judge says you can lose your right to free speech using social media.

The judge ruled clicking the like button on Facebook isn’t constitutionally protected speech.

The ruling was made after Hampton Sheriff B.J. Roberts fired six employees for supporting an opponent in the 2009 election.

One of those employees had “liked” his opponent’s Facebook page.

The workers sued claiming a violation of the First Amendment and lost.
