SPRINGBORO, Ohio (WKEF) – A 14-year-old boy accused of having sex with a 12-year-old girl at school is facing rape charges.
Police said the teens said what happened was consensual and that the incident allegedly happened during school hours.
However, the Warren County Prosecutor said the boy was charged with rape because the girl is under the age of 13, which is Ohio law.
Residents said it is hard to imagine this all happened at school.
"First of all, they're too young,” said resident Cindy Marconet told WKEF-TV’s Rhonda Moore. “When I was 12 years old I didn't know about things that deep."
Another resident, Norma Alexander, agreed and said she thinks what the teens are accused of is horrible.
“I know I'm older, and from a different generation, but my gosh," said Alexander. "You just think your kids are raised with better morals than to go to school and have sex."
The women said they want to know where teachers where when all this was allegedly taking place.
"When we were in school the teachers monitored the halls, they would come in the bathrooms, they knew where we were," said Marconet.
Also, the women think both students should be punished.
"I think it's a shame and if he's going to be charged she should be charged too because they both knew what they were doing," said Marconet.
School officials said they cannot comment on the case.
