SUFFOLK, Va. (WTKR.com) – A dead body found on a playground in Suffolk, Virginia Tuesday is now at the medical examiner’s office where it will undergo an autopsy.
The body was found at the Nansemond Swim Club playground by a woman checking on the property. The pool is set to open in a few weeks.
“They told me they had found a decomposed body up in the playground equipment,” said a man named Chris, who lives near the pool.
Police said the body was so badly decomposed that they can’t determine whether it’s a man or a woman.
“They thought the body would be decomposed for months with a lot of layers of clothing,” said Chris. “It’s very scary, very scary. This is a pretty good community to grow up in. We ride around in golf carts, my kids run around all the time, so I’m glad they didn’t find it.”
