Mysterious booms leave officials, residents mystified

Posted

Mysterious noises that sound like explosions have unnerved the residents of Clintonville, Wisconsin.

Officials there say that reports of the ground shaking and popping sounds started as early as Sunday night.

At its height at 3:30 yesterday morning, Central time, residents reported lamps and doors rattling.

The local gas company has been checking gas lines, but has found nothing so far.

So at approximately 9:30 p.m. is when people started reporting a series of what they would call sort of a pipe rattling noise coming from underground, shaking things in their house, kind of sounding, not really as an explosion, but you could clearly feel something going on.

Officials are checking with geologists to see if the strange sounds are weather-related or natural.
