CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) – A Chesterfield woman has been arrested for assaulting a juvenile and brandishing a handgun, confirmed Chesterfield Police spokesperson, Elizabeth Caroon.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon. Police responded to reports of a "disturbance with a weapon involved" in the 5300 block of south Jessup Road. The incident occurred near a bus stop, confirmed police.

Allegedly several juveniles were blocking the roadway, which police said led to a confrontation between the kids and an adult female. Police said the woman claimed the juveniles were cursing her.

Police said that during the confrontation, the woman pulled out a handgun and also struck one female juvenile in the head with the firearm- a struggle ensued.

According to authorities, a man showed up on scene in another vehicle, broke up the fight, took the gun from the woman, and the two left together.  Police said officers followed up using a license plate number of the vehicle and found both the man and the woman at a corresponding address.

The woman admitted to the offense and the handgun was voluntarily turned over to officers, police said.

Desantiago was released on an unsecured bond. A court date has not been set. Police said they don't anticipate any further charges in the incident.
