RPD Cruiser involved in accident

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)- Richmond Police are on the scene investigating an accident involving one of their own cruisers Sunday morning.

The accident happened Sunday morning around 8:00 near the intersection of Carver St. and Rogers Ave. Two vehicles, the RPD cruiser and a second car, were involved.

RPD spokesman James Mercante confirms to CBS 6 that a vehicle driven by Tavon R. Ford, 22, of the 100 block of Green Acres Ave., ran through the stop sign while traveling east on Carver St., striking the police car heading south on Rogers Ave.

Ford is facing charges of reckless driving, diving on a suspended license, and not having a valid state inspection sticker.

In regard to injuries, police tell us that the officer and Ford were transported to VCU Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Both are expected to be fine.
