Best U.S. cities for historic travel

(WTVR) – The river city ranks among the best historic cities in the country according to U.S. News and World Report.

America is a relatively young country in comparison to the rest of the world, but it still has a significant amount of history.

In different parts of the country historic sites stand proudly next to contemporary structures.

The cities best known by history buffs are strewn across the country, but two of them are right here in Virginia.

Ranked number two is Williamsburg, part historic town, part theatrical stage, the town hosts several refurbished buildings with actors from the time period to go along with it.

Where does the river city fall in this ranking?

According to the survey, Richmond is the 8th best historic city.

The former capitol of the confederacy is an alluring historical spot with Civil War paraphernalia and landmarks all around town.
