(CNN) - When it comes to TV ratings, DVR's rule. The New York Times reports DVR's and Internet streaming have changed show popularity. Reality competition show American Idol has dominated for nearly a decade. Now scripted shows, like ABC's Modern Family, are the most popular shows on T-V.
Researchers say that's because people DVR them and watch them over and over,
or watch them on Internet sites like Hulu.
43-percent of American homes have DVR's. But cable on-demand and Internet streams are making it harder to assess ratings.
