RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Few would ever think that on a bustling college campus a crime could be committed - and go undetected....but it did.
At 11:45 Wednesday morning, just outside of the Temple building on VCU's campus, police say a man pulled out a knife, approached a woman, asked for money , then took off.
"Extremely crazy. I mean I walk here on the streets with thousands of other students in the morning", said student Cristina Hayes.
"Just a high traffic area. Wouldn`t think anyone would rob someone right in the middle of campus?", said student John Picchi.
Soon after VCU sent out an alert to all students.
"When I first read it, it just shocked me. It definitely makes you become aware of your surroundings.", said Picchi.
Not only did it happen during a busy time on campus, but right around the corner from the VCU police station on North Cherry Street.
"That`s what scares me, it was like he really didn`t think it through. The worst robberies is when they`re not really thinking and they go for it. ", said student Nikki Malloy.
Police describe the suspect as a white male in his early 20's, wearing a grey and white long sleeve shirt, khaki pants and neon green sunglasses.
Students are taking precautions.
"Because of the morning hours. We`re all out here. I can`t believe no one saw anything because it was that early", said Hayes.
